Written by Cathy L. Kaiser

I went to my doctor, once again. His only real suggestion, his one bit of hope was yoga. He tried to get me involved with yoga time and time again. I dismissed it thinking he just had run out of things to try. As my health worsened, I decided to browse the Internet for a possible yoga instructor that might be able at least give me some new ideas or direction. I was willing to try yoga at least once if there was even a slight chance it might be able to help me.

I sat in my wheel chair at my computer, tears streaming down my face, from the pain that haunted me. I thought, "I mean if this might really work, really cause a difference, perhaps I could at least try." There within the web pages I found a yoga instructor, within the same city where I live. It read: Irma Juneau, works with disabilities. Her phone number was listed. I dialed the number, to get information and about the cost.. I set up a private lesson at my home, I figured if it got weird or anything, than I would just stop the lessons.

Finally, there was a sturdy knock at the door. It was Irma, I invited her inside the door.
I always pictured yoga as being really difficult, painful positions and a lot strange sounds of chanting. Yet, I knew I needed something, and perhaps I should keep an opened mind. Several years before, I had begun to experience black outs due to such intense physical pain, the doctor said it was so much pain that my brain could not face it and my brain would actually go sleep while I was awake -- thus missing time. I looked into the oceans of her soul, there within her eyes I saw endless compassion and kindness. Immediately we had a connection that to this day cannot be explained. I somehow knew right then, my life was about to take a drastic change.

She guided me through very light stretches and taught me about the importance of deep breathing patterns as the mediations gave me great inner strength. As she came every couple weeks and she presented to me the basic keys of yoga, I found myself being quietly empowered. When we first met, almost a year ago, I was on 120 mg of morphine daily because the pain was so overwhelming. Now I am totally off the morphine with ain patch that is attached on my back, so the medicine can soak directly into the skin. This, combined with a six month procedure that blocks pain from the spine.

After a few lessons, Irma noticed there was a hovering negative energy in my house. She taught me how to cleanse the house and bathe in clear, white, positive light. Even now, I continue on this journey of self empowerment, that yoga mediations create within my inner essence. My life has been delivered to true freedom, because of those lessons Irma gave to me. Yes, yoga gave me the tools to release the negative energy and let it go. She taught me how to not allow the Ghosts of my past to keep its hold on my life. Even after that first yoga lesson, I found I was given tremendous energy, for, I had not known this level of physical and spiritual energy in many years. The highest benefit it gave me was true focus.

Now the wheel chair, no longer runs my life. I am able at times to walk from room to room within my home. I am still unable to walk long distance, but I am no longer a prisoner of those wheels that use to have to carry me to every place, to every room. I was so ready, so willing to receive, so willing to believe, to do whatever it took to travel to that journey that held my liberty of life. I am and have been so blessed by Irma’s wisdom and spark of energy.
